On this fifth anniversary of Katrina, we remember those lives devastated by natural disasters including floods, hurricanes and tornadoes. In addition to granting funds for international missions and employee hardships, Encompass Cares helps local communities hit hardest by natural disaster.

Encompass Cares partners with Habitat for Humanity to help families break the cycle of poverty and build long-term financial security. In 2009, EHHI and HCHB staff built and furnished a home in Dallas for a single mom and her baby. This fall, Encompass staff is again providing financial and volunteer support to Habitat.

Encompass Cares supports the men and women serving our country in the military. One community assistance program was coordinated by the Miami EHHI office, which adopted a soilder in Iraq. Below is a letter of thanks for the care packages sent.

Encompass Cares is supporting five Back-to-School Drives this month! Backpacks and school supplies will be distributed to children in Cisco and Palestine in Texas, and Boswell, Idabel and Sapulpa in Oklahoma. and the surrounding areas.

Last year, we gratefully accepted donations of $104,783 from 376 generous employee donors, and those donations lead to charitable works around the world.  This year, our goal is to increase the number of employee donors to 1000.

Over the last two years we have had numerous requests to be able to help our co-workers who have had other types of Emergency needs which are currently outside the scope of our mission.  As a result, we have officially altered the mission of Encompass Cares in order to create an expanded Employee Emergency Relief Fund to allow us to provide this additional level of support to one another as various types of hardships occur.

The Encompass Cares Foundation is excited to announce the Habitat for Humanity Project.  This team-building opportunity is a way to serve others by building a home for a family in need.  This is promised to be a life changing experience for everyone involved.  It also furthers our mission of "A Better Way to Care by Giving and Serving."

The First Annual Encompass Cares Day of Giving took place on September 17, 2008.  We are humbled by the generosity that so many demonstrated through donations.

Oklahoma Encompass Home Health staff are hosting a fan drive in August.  The Encompass Cares Foundation is proud to contribute to this community outreach program.

Thanks from April to donors for contributions made for their San Antonio, TX co-worker whose home was lost in a fire.  "I realize I have said this before, but the way you have once again exhibited a “better way to care” for each other is amazing."
